Suffield Obituary: Arthur Brome, 85

Condolences to his family and friends.

Arthur W. “Dutch” Brome, 85, of Windsor Locks passed away at home on Monday, September 12, 2016.

A native of Suffield, he was born on November 17, 1930 to Charles R. and Sarah (Goddard) Brome, one of three children. Dutch attended Suffield Academy, Kimble Union Academy and the University of Maine. He served in the Navy during the Korean War after which he joined his father in the Charles R. Brome & Son Oil Company.

He was successful in a number of ventures, the last of which was Eastern Enterprises Commercial Flooring. Dutch and his wife Betsey retired to Florida and later moved to Georgia and then to Windsor Locks.

Dutch is survived by his loving wife Betsey P. Brome, married just under 60 years and daughters Catherine Bavington (husband Stephen) of Cleveland, Georgia, Sarah Ciesla of Windsor Locks, Marty Sawyer (husband Dennis) of Coventry and Ellen Boleski (husband Paul) of East Granby; grandchildren Lincoln Austin, Trianna, Victoria, and Angela Bavington, Emily and Tyler Ciesla, Rachel, Whitney (husband Bryan Beupre) and Stephanie Sawyer. He was predeceased by his brothers David Johnson and Robert Brome, and his grandson Jamie Arthur McMahon.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 at 3:30 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield.
