Suffield Obituary: Barbara Cole, 96

Condolences to her family and friends.

Barbara Lang Cole, 96, of Suffield, formerly of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Hollis Cole, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015.

Born in Hartford to the late George and Gertrude (Marks) Lang. She lived most of her life in Windsor and also lived in New Hampshire and Florida with her husband and returned to CT after her husband’s passing. Barbara was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Windsor. She worked for the State of CT for 46 years as head of the Chemistry Section for the Department of Health. Eventually she became involved with the State Department of Environmental Protection Agency. She later served as one of the two representatives of CT for the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.

She was an accomplished painter who exhibited her work in CT and New York. She gave her many paintings to family and friends. One of her paintings is on permanent exhibit at Northwest Park. She enjoyed making beaded necklaces, playing Scrabble and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her pet dogs, Jojo, Dondi and Tikki brought joy to her life.

Barbara was predeceased by her sister Sharon (Sally) Pickett. She is survived by her nephews Eric Pickett of Germany, Dana Pickett and his wife Dawne of Rocky Hill and a cousin James Fournier and his wife Carol of Windsor Locks and her foster sister Betty Davidson of Spokane, WA. She leaves her brother-in-law John Cole and his wife Phyllis of Laconia, NH; her sisters-in-law Dorothy Rice of Tilton, NH and Lillian Fralick of Belmont, NH and her brother-in-law Howard Cole of Weirs Beach, New Hampshire. She will be remembered by many wonderful friends including Dorothy Carlson of Windsor, Betty Smith of Windsor Locks, Kathleen Vaiciulis of Ellington, and her special aides Patricia Raya of New Britain and Nina Pienkowski of New Britain.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday November 20 at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave Poquonock section of Windsor, followed by burial in Elm Grove Cemetery, Windsor.
