
Howard I. Shepard, 82, of Windsor loving husband of 53 years to the late Josephine (Glemboski) Shepard entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.
Howard was born February 12, 1935, in East Granby one of seven children to the late Howard and Alice (Parmalee) Shepard. Howard grew up in Suffield where he attended local schools and in his youth worked tobacco and on local dairy farms. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard various ships.
After being honorably discharged, Howard met and instantly fell in love with his lifelong companion and beautiful wife, Josephine Glemboski. He worked as a greenskeeper at the Suffield Country Club during the spring/summer of 1960. Howard was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a truck driver, group supervisor and retired as a foreman after 32 years. Howard worked part-time as a driver for Mashkin Freight in East Hartford for about 20 years and ABB Combustion retiring in 2002 after 10 years.

Howard stayed active and could be found mowing lawns and lending a hand to anyone in the neighborhood. He loved tending to his garden and giving the fruits of his labor to his neighbors and friends at the senior center. He enjoyed spending time in his tool shed, where he built wishing wells and bird houses. Howard was a parishioner of St. Gabriel Church where he was an usher and collector at the 4:30 Mass.
He is survived by his two children, Sandra Shepard and her fiancé Danny Ouellette of East Windsor and Anthony Shepard and his wife, Lynn-Ann of Springfield, MA; his loving granddaughter, Alyssa Shepard; a sister, Beatrice Clark and her husband, Richard of Windsor Locks; sisters-in-law, Candace Shepard, Joan Morin and husband, James all of Windsor Locks and several nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Ann Koniar; a grandson, Daniel Ouellette, Jr.; brothers, Thomas and Stanley Shepard; sisters, Marilyn McLaughlin, Vivian Clark; sisters-in-law, Anna Puchkors and her husband, Fritz and Dorothy Williams.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A Mass of Christian Burial for Howard will be celebrated on Monday, April 3, 2017, at 10 am at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor. (Please meet at the church). Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Windsor Locks.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bickford Health Care Recreation Fund, 14 Main St., Windsor Locks.
