
John J. Golec, Sr., 88, of Suffield beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Kopernik) Golec passed away Monday, February 29, 2016.
Born January 30, 1928 in Goodyear, CT son of the late John and Sophie (Gowac) Golec. He had lived in Suffield the majority of his adult life. John served in the US Navy during WWII. After the war, he worked for Kaman Aircraft and retired after 28 years with Combustion Engineering. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Suffield. He was a very active member of the Suffield Fire Department for 50 years, a founding member of the Suffield Flyers Hockey Organization and was an avid golfer.
He was survived by three sons, John J. Golec, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Suffield, Thomas J. Golec and his wife Terri of Southington, Edward J. Golec of Suffield; two daughters, Mary Ann Hosking and her husband Allen of Cheektowaga, NY, Ann Elizabeth Mangiameli and her husband Joseph of Suffield; a brother, Richard Golec of Burlington, NC; a sister, Bridget Livernoche of Moosup; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer, John, III, Coleen, Megan, Thomas, II, Amanda, Joseph, III, Nicholas, Grace, Edward and Richard; and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Edward and Walter; and three sisters, Ann, Theresa and Mary.

His family will receive friends Friday, March 4, 2016 from 5-8 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. Family and friends may gather Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12:00 PM Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Church, Suffield. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Suffield.
