Suffield Obituary: John Hughes, 89

John J. Hughes, 89 of Suffield, beloved husband of Josephine (Heslin) Hughes, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Astoria, NY to the late John and Rose Ellen (Lavery) Hughes, he served his country proudly with the US Navy during WWII and has been a Suffield resident for almost 40 years. John owned and operated East Windsor Welding & Fabricating, Inc. and was a member of the Fox Hollow Gun Club and the Suffield Country Club. His main focus was always his family who will miss him dearly.

Besides his wife Jo, he is survived by sons James Hughes of Southwick, MA; Peter Hughes and his wife Jennifer of Somers; his daughter Maryellen Brennan and her husband Charles of South Windsor; his sisters Marguerite Spellacy of New York, and Kathleen Stegeman of Florida; his grandchildren Kevin, John and Sara Hughes, J.R. and Christian Hughes, Shannon and Andrew Brennan. He was predeceased by his son John Hughes, Jr. and his sister Eleanor Woods.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Friday, January 15 at St. Patrick’s Church, 64 Pearl St. Enfield followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield. His family will receive friends on Thursday, January 14 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N, Suffield.
