Suffield Obituary: John McGunigle III, 59

Condolences to his family and friends.

John Edward McGunigle III, 59, of Suffield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at his home.

Born in Woburn, MA on July 3, 1956, son of Catherine (Gately) McGunigle and the late John E. McGunigle, Jr., he was raised in the Rockaway Park section of Queens, NY and was a graduate of Nazareth Regional High School in Brooklyn, NY. After high school, John continued his education at the University of Buffalo and then at Canisius College where he received his MBA. After college, John lived in Buffalo, NY before moving to Connecticut in the early 1980's. John and his family eventually settled in Suffield where he had lived since 1993.

He worked as a financial planner and life insurance representative for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, MA. John also enjoyed travelling and was always up for a good road trip. Most of all, he will be remembered as a family man who loved to be with his family and friends, play with his German Shepherd Parker, and work in his yard. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Suffield.

He leaves behind his mother, Catherine M. McGunigle of Rockaway Park, NY; two sons, LT Brendan J. McGunigle, USN of San Diego, CA and Collin J. McGunigle of Suffield; two daughters, Caitlin A. McGunigle of Watertown, MA and 2nd Lt. Meghan A. McGunigle, USMC of Suffield; four sisters, Elaine Green of Rockaway Park, NY, Joan Brown and her husband Ron of Norwalk, Cathleen Clemens and her husband Dan of Needham, MA, and Mary McGunigle of Rockaway Park, NY; and six nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, June 30, 5-8 p.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East Street North, Suffield. Family and friends may gather on Friday, July 1, 10 a.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, Suffield. Burial will be private.

The family has requested that in memory John's love of dogs that memorial contributions be made to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or to Guide Dogs of America, 13445 Glenoaks Boulevard, Sylmar, CA 91342.
