Suffield Obituary: Marcus Deane II, 90

Marcus Griffin Deane II, 90, of Mystic and formerly of Suffield, beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Coates) Deane, passed away September 26, 2015.

Born December 21, 1924 in Springfield, MA son of the late Francis and Florence (Hart) Deane, he grew up and lived in Suffield most of his life. During WWII Marcus served with the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate aboard Merchant Marine vessels. After the war he worked as a cabinetmaker, then as a patternmaker in East Longmeadow for many years before retiring. Marcus always enjoyed working with his hands and had many hobbies including woodworking, gardening, and being a HAM Radio operator.

He is survived by his two sons, Marcus G. Deane III and his wife Patty of Roswell, GA; Philip Deane and his wife Kathy of Enfield; a daughter, Sharon Overstrom and her husband Neal of North Stonington; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother and sister in-law, Francis and Eileen Deane and a sister Anna.

Calling hours will be Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 4:30-6:30 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield, followed by a memorial service at 6:30 PM at the funeral home with military honors.
