Suffield Obituary: Rosella Whitney, 92

Rosella H. Whitney, 92, of Suffield, beloved wife of the late John F. Whitney, Jr. passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs.

Born July 1, 1924 in New Haven, daughter of the late Earle and Vivian (Hunt) Howlett, she moved around several times as a young girl and then lived in Hampden, MA before moving to Suffield in 1957. Rosella had worked for Spaulding Gardens and W.T. Grant. She had served as past president of the Suffield Emergency Aid Society and she was very involved with the League of Women Voters. Rosella and her husband enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for 20 years.

She is survived by a son, John F. Whitney, III and his wife, Nancy of Suffield; two sisters, Althea Scheller of Suffield, Barbara Angevine and her husband, William of Laconia, NH; two grandchildren, Michael Paul Whitney, Mark Howlett Whitney; two great grandchildren, John F. Whitney, IV, Ethan Whitney. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Jane Whitney.

Rosella’s family would like to express thanks to Brightstar Care of Hartford, Suffield House and Eagle Point for the care given to Rosella over the years.

Family and friends may gather Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 10-11 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield.
