Suffield Obituary: Shirley Stoughton, 78

Shirley P. Stoughton, 78, of Windsor Locks, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at Bickford Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 31, 1939 in Hartford, daughter of the late Murray and Ethel (Sinton) Phelps, Sr., Shirley grew up in West Suffield before moving to Homestead, FL continuing on to Port St. Lucie, FL where she worked as a home caregiver for a number of years. She returned to Windsor Locks several years ago to be near her family. During her time at Bickford, Shirley made many friends with whom she enjoyed playing bingo, doing crafts and other activities.

Shirley’s family extends their gratitude and sincere thanks to all the staff at Bickford who loved and cared for her during her stay.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Stoughton and his wife, Theresa of West Suffield, Richard Stoughton of Sanford, NC; a daughter, Lori DeFrances and her husband, Guy of Windsor; a brother, Murray Phelps, Jr. and his wife, Connie of West Suffield; two grandchildren, Kelly Flynn of Charleston, SC and Gillian Flynn of Windsor.

Shirley was a member of Copper Hill United Methodist Church in East Granby, where memorial service will be held in the spring.
