Suffield Obituary: Thomas Gacona, 90

Condolences to his family and friends.

Thomas Gacona, 90, of Enfield, husband of the late Frances (Zarcaro) Gacona (1988), entered into eternal peace Friday, December 16, 2016 at Suffield House.

Born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, Tom was the son of the late Bernardo and Josephine (Schembere) Gacona. He was a lifelong resident of the Enfield community and was a communicant of St. Adalbert Church. Tom served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy with the SeaBees during WW II and was a member of the Tanguay Magill Post# 80 American Legion. He was also a longtime member of the Enfield Mt. Carmel Society.

He was employed by the CT Dept. of Transportation for 25 years retiring as State Highway Engineer. Tom was an avid gardener and an amazing cook and took great pride in caring for his home.

He is survived by three children, Martha Russak and her husband Peter of New Port Richey, FL, Bernard Gacona and his wife Diane of Charlotte, NC, Lillian Weitz and her husband Bruce Cresskill, NJ; four grandchildren, Brendan and Sumner Weitz, Kristy Scheponik, and Courtney Gacona; several nieces and nephews. His caregiver and close friend who was like family, Juan Medina , and his daughters Sydney and Jordyn Medina. Besides his wife Frances, Tom was predeceased by a son Thomas Gacona, Jr., two brothers, Louis and Samuel Gacona, four sisters, Lillian Vielinski, Josephine Heidman, Vincie Tipton, Nancy Cadieux.

Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels for a procession to St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal, with military honors will follow at St. Adalbert's Cemetery.
