Suffield Police Chief Impersonated In Call, Officials Say

A resident reported the call after someone appeared to spoof the Suffield Police Department's number.

SUFFIELD, CT — Suffield police are warning residents about a scam call in which someone appeared to spoof the department’s phone number and pretend to be the police chief.

The department said a Suffield resident contacted Chief Richard Canon after receiving a call from a number that looked like it came from the Suffield Police Department.

The caller claimed to be Canon and said police were investigating the resident’s immigration status, according to the department. The resident ended the call and contacted Canon directly to report what happened.
