Suffield Runs Away With Division III Golf Championship

The Wildcats had the individual champion and three other players finished in the top 20 to breeze to victory Monday.

BERLIN, CT — Led by a 5-under par 67 by Austin Rupp, Suffield High School placed its first four golfers in the top 17, posting a 297 team total to win the Division III state championship by 12 strokes over Killingly at Timberlin Country Club Monday.

Rupp, the only player to break par, was the individual medalist by a 5-stroke margin over Colin Luca of East Catholic and Justin Mathew of Northwest Catholic.

The Wildcats won a state golf title for just the second time, and first since co-winning the Division II crown with Joel Barlow in 1982.
