Suffield Superintendent Placed On Leave During Investigation
Accusations of failure to report a case of suspected child abuse are being investigated by the Suffield Police Department.

SUFFIELD, CT — Superintendent of Schools Karen Berasi was placed on paid administrative leave Monday night while police continue to investigate an allegation of failure to report suspected child abuse, the Journal Inquirer reported.
The Board of Education voted to place Berasi on leave at a special meeting Monday at Suffield Middle School. Assistant superintendent Michelle Zawawi will serve as interim superintendent.

"We expect to be fully exonerated when the details are heard. The public does not know the background of the case, nor all the steps that we as mandated reporters took immediately and within the first 48 hours."
