Suffield's Interim Police Chief Stripped of Title

A state police commission said the interim chief does not meet the qualifications to possess the title; however, he still is in charge.

SUFFIELD, CT — Interim police chief Anthony Riello will continue to lead the Suffield Police Department despite a state commission's decision to strip him of the chief's title, NBC Connecticut reported.

The Police Officer Standards Training Council (POST) informed Riello Friday that he is not officially qualified to act as a police officer in the state of Connecticut, due to his failure to complete certification courses within a year of his July 2015 hiring, the station reported.

Riello, a longtime police chief in several Massachusetts towns, was brought in on a temporary basis last summer following the forced resignation of embattled Chief Michael Manzi and Capt. Craig Huntley.
