Missing Windsor Woman Found Alive in Suffield [UPDATED]

SUFFIELD, CT — A Windsor woman reported missing Sunday has been found alive in the area of Sunrise Park in West Suffield, police reported Monday morning.

In a written statement, Suffield Capt. Christopher McKee said, "Karen Leonard has been found alive in the area of Sunrise Park Suffield during a comprehensive search by Suffield Fire, EMS, and Police personnel working with the Connecticut Search and Rescue Association. Emergency Medical Services will be transporting her to a local area hospital for emergency care."

A vehicle found Sunday evening at a town-owned park in West Suffield belongs to a Windsor woman who has been reported missing.

Around 7:42 p.m., Suffield police located the vehicle parked at Sunrise Park, a heavily wooded area which connects to the Metacomet Trail. Investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle is Karen Leonard, 57, of Windsor, Capt. Christopher McKee said.

Leonard was reported as missing to the Windsor Police Department, which promptly issued a Silver Alert for her, McKee said.

She is described as a white female, standing 5-foot-6, weighing 150 lbs., with brown eyes and auburn/red hair.

Police from Suffield and Windsor have coordinated search operations with Connecticut State Police. State police canine units searched the area overnight, and a state police helicopter was deployed Monday morning to assist with search operations, McKee said.

Road closures will exist in the area of the park, and McKee urged residents to avoid the area so as not to impede search operations.
