Warrants Obtained in Suffield Shoplifting Spree

One suspect has been arrested, another is being sought and a third is currently incarcerated in Massachusetts, police said.

SUFFIELD, CT — Suffield police have obtained arrest warrants for three individuals responsible for a spree of shopliftings from CVS Pharmacy in town from March through May 2017.

On Monday, Randall Layne, 27, whose last known address was in Enfield, was arrested on a warrant obtained by Suffield police for his roles in thefts at CVS on two different occasions. Layne was located by Hartford police on July 15, and was taken into custody and turned over to Suffield authorities, Capt. Christopher McKee said.

Suffield police also hold an active arrest warrant for a second suspect involved who conspired with Layne to commit these shopliftings. Jeremiah Fitzgerald, 27, whose last known address is also in Enfield, is the subject of similar charges for two of the crimes committed at CVS, McKee said.

Layne and Fitzgerald are accused of committing shoplifting thefts, then fleeing the scene in a maroon colored Saturn sedan. Additional arrest warrants are pending for both Layne and Fitzgerald, McKee said.

Suffield police have also obtained authorization from the Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney’s Office to extradite a third suspect, Nicholas Roy, 26 of Indian Orchard, Mass., for his role in thefts from CVS during March 2017. Roy is currently incarcerated at a Massachusetts correctional facility, McKee said.

Roy was initially stopped by Agawam, Mass. and Suffield police as he fled the scene of a theft in March 2017. During the course of this stop, Roy provided officers with a false name and identity of a former acquaintance. After learning of Roy’s impersonation, Suffield police and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section located Roy and his girlfriend in Springfield, Mass., according to McKee.

Agawam police later arrested Roy for several offenses, including obstruction of justice and forgery. Suffield police have lodged a detained so that when Roy has completed serving his jail time in Massachusetts, he will return to Connecticut to face charges for his crimes in Suffield, McKee said.
