Winter Storm Targets Suffield: Latest Forecast, Cancellations, How To Prepare

Find out the latest snow accumulation estimates and timeline for the upcoming major winter storm from meteorologists.

SUFFIELD, CT Town officials say Suffield crews are prepared for a significant winter storm expected to bring heavy snow and hazardous travel, with plow operations scheduled to run throughout the event and a parking ban in place.

Preparedness And Local Operations

According to an email from Lee Corbert, Director of Public Works for the Town of Suffield, the town currently has more than 2,000 tons of treated road salt on hand, which officials say is sufficient to get through a multi-day snow event.

During the storm, Suffield will have 16 plow trucks and six wheel loaders operating as conditions warrant. A parking ban is in effect from 9 a.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Tuesday, and officials said vehicles left on town roads during that time can significantly slow snow removal operations and create safety issues.

Guidance For Residents

Town officials said the single most important thing residents can do to help snow operations is to stay off the roads unless there is an emergency. Reducing traffic allows plow operators to work more efficiently and helps crews keep roads passable during periods of heavy snowfall.

Residents are asked to report immediate safety issues or hazards to the police non-emergency number, so concerns can be routed quickly to the appropriate response crews.

Meteorologists at WFSB say snow is expected to begin Sunday morning, intensify through the afternoon, and peak Sunday night into early Monday, with plowable snow likely inland.

At WTNH, forecasters say snow should develop during the morning hours Sunday and continue into Monday, with significant accumulations expected across interior Connecticut.

Meteorologists at NBC Connecticut say snow will move into the state from the south Sunday, with the heaviest impacts expected Sunday night before the storm tapers off Monday.

At FOX61, forecasters say confidence continues to increase that inland communities will see plowable snow, with the most hazardous travel conditions likely Sunday afternoon through early Monday.

Town officials urged residents to follow the parking ban, avoid unnecessary travel, and give plow crews the space they need to safely clear Suffield’s roads throughout the storm.
