HADDAM, CT — Halloween arrives early in East Haddam with a candy drop from the sky Saturday, Friday is the deadline to register to vote at the polls, and Haddam's fire auxiliary hosts its military whist party.
Here are five things to know about life around Haddam, East Haddam and Killingworth this week:
1. Halloween In The Village With A Candy Drop From The Sky
When: Saturday, Oct. 17, 2 to 5 p.m. (rain date Sunday, Oct. 18)
Where: East Haddam Village, Main Street (Route 149), East Haddam
What to know: The afternoon starts at 2 p.m., with candy dropped from a plane over Goodspeed Airport at 2:45 p.m. and an adults-only witch walk from Eagle Landing State Park at 3 p.m., according to the event itinerary posted by the town. There will be hay rides, vendors at the gazebo, a Halloween Hamlet at Rathbun Library with face painting and a henna artist, and a scarecrow contest throughout the village. 2. Friday Is The Deadline To Register To Vote At The Polls
When: Friday, Oct. 16; Registrar of Voters session 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Killingworth Town Office Building, 323 Route 81, Killingworth
What to know: Oct. 16 is the deadline to register in person at Town Hall, at the DMV, by mail (postmarked) or online for Nov. 3, according to Killingworth's election notice; the town calendar lists the Registrar of Voters at the Town Office Building that day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. After that, voters can register in person during early voting at Town Hall, Oct. 19 to Nov. 1, or on Election Day. Absentee ballots are available at the Town Clerk's office.

3. Fire Auxiliary's Military Whist Card Party
When: Thursday, Oct. 15; doors open 5:30 p.m., game at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Haddam Firehouse Community Room, 439 Saybrook Road, Haddam
What to know: The Haddam Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary holds its annual military whist card party at the new firehouse, with refreshments at 6 p.m. and play starting promptly at 6:30 p.m., according to the town calendar. Tickets are $8 at the door, first come, first served; call 860-345-8351 with questions.

4. Fall Fest And Trunk Or Treat At HK High
When: Saturday, Oct. 17, 5 to 8 p.m.
Where: Haddam-Killingworth High School, 95 Little City Road, Higganum
What to know: Haddam's town calendar lists a Fall Fest and Trunk or Treat at the high school Saturday evening.
