3 Motorists Injured In Recent Haddam Crashes: FD

HADDAM, CT — Three motorists were injured in two separate crashes since Friday, fire and police officials said.

The first accident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 near the intersection of Brainard Hill Road and Oxbow Road, according to the Haddam Volunteer Fire Co.

A truck crashed into a tree, and the driver was taken to Middlesex Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to fire and police officials.

State police said a Toyota Tundra was southbound on Brainard Hill Road when it failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road and struck the tree.

The driver, Edgar Cordero-Salvatierra, 47, of Waterbury, was charged with failure to drive right, operating under suspension, and operating while under the influence.

Cordero-Salvatierra was released on a $5,000 bond and is due to appear in Superior Court in Middletown on Sept. 18.

On Monday, Sept. 7, there was a two-vehicle crash involving a Kia Sportage and a Dodge Charger around 11:30 a.m. on Killingworth Road, or Route 81, by the Higganum-Burr Cemetery.

Emergency responders evaluated both drivers, both female Higganum residents, and transported them to Middlesex Hospital. State police described their injuries as minor.

One of the drivers was exiting the cemetery and failed to grant the right of way to oncoming traffic, resulting in the collision, state police said. That driver, a 77-year-old, was issued a written warning, a police report shows.
