Organists Bill Degan & Chris Davenport will perform a program of Organ music from old to new, played on the historic 1827 Appleton Pipe organ, one of the oldest surviving instruments in the country.Β  Originally built for the First Unitarian Church of New York City, it was moved to the First Congregational Church of Middletown in 1844 when the New York City church moved into a larger space uptown.Β  In 1873, the organ was purchased by the Second Congregational Church in Middle Haddam Β when the Middletown church expanded.

Bill Degan is the Music Director at Bristol Baptist Church, where he plays a Gilbert and Butler tracker organ from 1895.Β  He is also a physics teacher at Farmington High School.Β  He studied organ with John Holtz at the Hartt School of Music, Alice Mumme at the University of Maine, and Elinora Price. Bill has been a member of the America Guild of Organists since 1977 and the Organ Historical Society since 1979.

Chris Davenport is a senior at Farmington High School, and will be attending Ithaca College next year, majoring in Music Education and Organ Performance.Β  At the High School, Chris is in the Wind Ensemble (clarient), Jazz Band (piano), Jazz Combo, and Chamber Choir.
