Gardening - Two Green Thumbs Up

I'm the opposite of a green thumb, but I knew I had to overcome my gardening fears. What a journey its going to be.

We bought our house last fall when brown leaves reigned the land and sparse vegetables lingered from their vines and branches. It was an exciting time but exploration of the space was limited. Even with raking, raking, and more raking the foliage of spring and summer were long gone and months of cold weather were upon us before we’d ever see greenery again.

Now, flora is returning. However, I don’t really know what “flora” is. After all, I just moved here and have not experienced all of the seasons in this home. There’s a sense of excitement tied to that as I roam the property. Not to mention that I have the opposite of a green thumb. The opposite of a Midas touch. I’m pretty much the enormously-damaging Kiluea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. So merging that aspect of myself with the obliviousness of the land and we’ve got quite a perplexing concoction.

So I worked to overcome this.

As I roam the property this spring, I’m watching crocuses, tulips, then daffodils peak through the earth. Buds are forming on our trees and bushes have slight hints of purples, yellows and greens. The vegetable garden is giving life to mustard greens, rhubarb, raspberries and green onion. (Disclaimer: I had to look all of this up before writing any of it.) I continue to learn.

I love uncovering new things and learning about this living, breathing world. And I'm proud to say I'm aiding in the growth of my property's vegitation.

I give two green thumbs up to that.
