Killingworth was remarkably fortunate over the last 24 hours. For once, we did not lose power (except for one lonely house--hope you get restored soon!).
Many thanks to our road crew, and the contractors who worked with them. They cleared roads throughout the night. Most roads are currently passable, but both state and town roads still have limited accessibility, and no one should drive unless absolutely necessary. Our crews continue to work on the roads that are still blocked, and contractors will be working into the evening. Drifting snow is a problem that we will continue to address. Another problem is snow pushed into the roads from private driveways. At least one of our trucks has been sidelined by a berm of snow from a driveway plow-out. We know that it is hard to find a place to put all this snow, but the roadway is not the answer.
The governor has banned all nonemergency vehicles from all roads until further notice--probably at least until this evening. I have declared a snow emergency, which means that parking on all town roads is banned. Please observe these restrictions for your own safety and so that our road crews can continue their efforts to keep our roads clear for first responders.

If you have an emergency, call 911, as always. I am regularly checking for non-emergency messages on the Town Hall phone, 860-663-1765, ext. 501.
With several feet of snow against houses, be sure to clear any vents from your house. Especially if you are heating with propane or pellets, blocked vents can lead to a dangerous build-up of carbon monoxide.

The Transfer Station is closed today. It will be open for regular hours--2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.--on Tuesday, February 12. Note that the Town Hall will be closed that day in observance of Lincoln's birthday.
For now, the safest place you can be is at home. Stay warm!
