What could be better than catching a little bit of East Haddam history in a rain shower? That is what I had the pleasure to do this evening, along with my soon to be constant companion and Campaign Chairman David Balthazar. He had never been to the museum so it was quite a treat to show him around. We were there for the official Sherman/Stone Memorial Opening and it was amazing. Two of the pieces from the show are shown below. If you have never been to the museum you are also missing out on a well hidden secret: their gift shop!! They have a beautiful assortment of estate jewelry and local books and such. They also have a new website and you should check out all the events they have!! If you take the time to wander about the exhibit of Barbara Stone and Anita Sherman-you will be amazed at the talent in our little town. Thanks so much to Charlie Farrow and George Drenga for their hospitality. It was great speaking with them about the folks that add to our history and thanks to them for their dedication to such a great organization like the East Haddam Historical Society and Museum. Additional great exhibits are the Heinz Warneke (more info here) and Moodus Fife and Drum Corps (more info here). Take the time this summer to learn about the history in your own backyard! They also have additional information about William Gillette, Moodus Mills, and beautiful local art.
In addition, I learned of a great program going on throughout the area museums called: Get Lost in Heritage. All the info you need for this summer program is here.
