They Called Me Lizzy......from Slavery to the White House"

Free Performance 

  On Sunday, May 20, 2012 Haddam will celebrate 350 years with an afternoon full of festivities. At 2 pm the Haddam Historical Society will present "They Called Me Lizzy......from Slavery to the White House" in the yard of the Thankful Arnold House Museum. Actress Stephanie Jackson portrays Elizabeth Keckly who is best known as the dressmaker to Mary Todd Lincoln and author of "Behind the Scenes, 30 Years a Slave and Four Years in the White House". The presentation recounts her rise from slavery to entrepreneurial freedom then scandal and decline. Don't miss this production full of twists and turns, bravery and remarkable resilience.

350 Proclamation

  At 3 pm Haddam's First Selectman, Paul DeStefano will read a proclamation honoring the founding of Haddam exactly 350 years ago on May 20, 1662. This will take place in Field Park and will include a brief history of the park followed by refreshments in the Thankful Arnold House garden. Visitors will also be able to engage with historic Haddam characters. Parking is available at the Haddam Town Office Building, 30 Field Park Drive. In case of rain all events will take place at the Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam, CT.
