To Wine & Not to Whine

Choosing Wining over Whining

My family has always been a punny family. You know, a play on words or "making a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word." (Thank you Mr. Webster). It's in our blood and it's contagious. My two kids have gotten it ! My wife is slowly coming over to the dark side too, much to her chagrin. I tell her to "Blame my Dad, I got it from watching him," I say. "Wine Not? Ah, which brings us to the topic I've been "mulling" over for this week.

Our new family tradition: Enjoy the local fruits of Wine, and not the Whining ....in moderation of course. Visit your local Connecticut vineyards for a relaxing family picnic. Hike through the rolling hills and enjoy walking among the vines. Enjoy a tasting and pickup a few of your favorite bottles.

Connecticut alone has twenty-four vineyards, visit the CT Wine Trail, each with their own unique qualities. Some have harvest festivals with kids activities and live music. Others, have barrel tastings, cheese tasting and even wine classes. If you feel like a formal tasting is too pretentious, remember "Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you do not understand it." In many "cases" children under 12 are free and any Whining will "blend" in with the live music. If you really start to enjoy your visits, help create your very own Custom Family Wine at some of the vineyards in the area.

So next time our family departs from the beautiful vineyard,  I ask the kids, "What did the grape say when he was squeezed? Nothing. He just Wined."  My daughter rolls her eyes with contempt responding "Daddy...Really? Where did you get that one?" I respond with singing "I heard in through the grape vine..."

I guess Wine and Whining do go hand in hand, at least when I'm the one singing.  My "Berry" best to you and your family this spring.
