Why Vote for Rob Smith?
Voicing support for a candidate who will bring superb management skills to the office of First Selectman.
Most East Haddam residents who know Rob Smith met him through his work with and leadership of the East Haddam Land Trust, as a Little League or Park & Recreation coach, or through his volunteer activities with East Haddam Planning and Zoning, and Open Space and Conservation Committees. Other residents may have met Rob when he was the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Supervisor at Devil's Hopyard or in his capacity as Assistant Director of field operations for Connecticut's park system.
My experience with Rob is slightly different. I've trusted Rob with my life, and he's trusted me with his.
Rob and I became Emergency Medical Technicians together. From our first certification class to my last re-certification more than a decade later, Rob and I were partners. As EMTs for East Haddam Ambulance we crawled in and out of crashed cars and climbed steep slopes to reach the injured. We cared for ill, harmed, hurt and, sometimes, dying children, teens, parents and grandparents. We worked in public places with all eyes watching and in private homes where few eyes could observe.

You get to know people pretty well under such circumstances. Whether they maintain a calm, composed demeanor in the face of acute stress.
Rob does. Whether they can absorb, assess and act effectively in difficult
circumstances. Rob can. Whether they are trustworthy and compassionate even
when no one is around. Rob is. Whether they will watch your back when you
are potentially vulnerable. Rob will.
I was thrilled to learn of Rob's candidacy for East Haddam First Selectman. He understands how government works and has first-hand knowledge of the ins and outs of small town life. Rob brings composure, determination, objectivity and, as importantly, tenacity to every project he undertakes.

For all these reasons Rob Smith has my vote in his bid to become East Haddam's First Selectman.
Why should you vote for Rob Smith? Because Rob will bring all his varied skills to the job and use them for the short and long term benefit of our town.
