In mid March we were asked by CL&P for permission to cut down some of our trees that could possibly fall on some electrical wires during a storm. We gave them permission. Soon after this the Asplundh workers came to cut down many trees on our street. They left many cut logs by the road. Even before most working people get home, some thieves came around and collected many of the cut trees. My husband saw one of the trucks while he was standing in our driveway. He yelled to them "I want the wood" so they bypassed our house, but proceeded to go on to all our neighbor's properties and take their wood. About two hours later when we were all inside, someone came by and took our wood as well. That was the first wood-stealing incident. Then, Asplundh continued their job in the next few days and left more wood by the road. This time, my husband took the logs and placed them next to the stone wall on our property which is at least 30 feet in from the road. Lo and behold, this wood was also taken from our property. For a third time, my husband collected more stray pieces wood that was on our property and placed them near our rose garden two-thirds up the way on our driveway. This wood was also taken! So what makes people think that they can take wood that is on someone else's property?!?! This is pure and simple thievery. Do we need to place No Trespassing signs on our property now? It is very disappointing that we have these types of people in our neighborhood. It instills a feeling of distrust and inhibits the ability to feel safe in your own home. If they take wood, what else will they take? Should we get a guard dog just to protect our property? Do we really need to put signs on wood saying "Do not take the wood" like we have seen on other streets? Why should people have to tell other people not to take THEIR wood. Its just not fair that they can take our wood, sell it for $300 a cord and then we have to go buy our wood? These thieves should be ashamed. Stealing and trespassing is against the law!
