Bringing William Gillette to Life

A book signing and slide program at Gillette Castle on Sunday sheds light on the author.

For more than 12 years Henry Zecher's William Gillette slide program has been a major hit in the Sherlockian world. Many have proclaimed it the best presentation ever given at a Sherlockian event.

Now, however, he has a book, "William Gillette, America's Sherlock Holmes," to go with it.

Henry Zecher will present his slide program and sign copies of his book at Gillette Castle in East Haddam on Sunday. With his new book, Zecher has trimmed the slide show back to less than 30 minutes, now more of a biographical treatment. The biographical treatment is in the biography.

Zecher will perform his William Gillette slide program in the Visitors Center at the castele between 1:30 and 4 pm.

He will, of course, be around all day, along with Gillette impersonators Tyke and Teddie Niver.
The program is free and open to all.

On Monday, May 30, he will be at the East Haddam Historical Society Museum on Town Street, near the castle, from 1-3 p.m
The performance and book signing will be repeated at the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Hartford, on Wednesday, June 1.
The slideshow and book signing will begin at 5:30 pm, after which a local acting troupe will do a reading of Gillette’s script for Sherlock Holmes.
