<h3>Bonding Beyond Boundaries: A Community Connection Workshop in Killingworth</h3>
The Women &amp; Family Life Center is bringing Bonding Beyond Boundaries: Building Community at Any Age to Killingworth in partnership with The Congregational Church in Killingworth, UCC.
Designed for adults ages 60ish to 75ish, this welcoming workshop creates an opportunity to meet others, build meaningful connections, reflect on friendship and community, and explore new possibilities through group conversation and creative activities.
Facilitated by Emma Dufresne, MSW, Bonding Beyond Boundaries is part of the Women &amp; Family Life Center’s effort to create accessible opportunities for connection and support throughout the communities we serve.
The workshop will be held on Friday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m. at The Congregational Church in Killingworth, UCC, 273 Route 81 in Killingworth.

Bonding Beyond Boundaries: A Community Connection Workshop For Older Adults Comes to Killingworth

Machimoodus State Park

The Friends of Machimoodus and Sunrise State Parks are thrilled to sponsor the debut of Superhero Training Corps’ Power Up at the Park program on Saturday September 26th (rain date Saturday, October 3) at Machimoodus State Park in East Haddam, CT.


This is a free, family friendly outdoor adventure day designed to bring families, children, volunteers, and the local community together for a hands-on day of environmental awareness and outdoor learning. The event will include a park cleanup, nature photo-based scavenger hunt, obstacle course, target accuracy game, and partner-led learning activities focused on sustainability, stewardship and service to the world around us. Participants will be asked to register on-site.





Superhero Training Corps is built around one simple belief: there is a superhero within all of us and superheroes take care of the things around them.

The Friends of Machimoodus and Sunrise State Parks, founded in 2016, is celebrating their 10th year of protecting, preserving and helping to care of these local natural treasures.

Power Up at the Park gives children and families a chance to put these ideals into action by caring for a shared public space while learning, playing, and working together.

Through super hero themed activities, participants will learn about litter reduction, habitat protection, trail maintenance, waste sorting, watersheds, wildlife, and community service.

Why This Matters:
Kids Learn to Protect What They Love
Machimoodus and Sunrise State Parks are beautiful public spaces where families can hike, explore, learn, play and connect with nature.

But public spaces need public care.
This event is more than just a one-day experience. It is a way to help children and families connect outdoor recreation with lasting environmental responsibility and conservation and reinforces the importance of civic engagement.


Power Up at the Park is designed to make ecological stewardship feel accessible, exciting and meaningful for children and families. Instead of simply telling kids to care about the environment, we are giving them a mission: clean up the park, observe nature, complete the scavenger hunt, learn from local partners, and make a stewardship pledge.



Children will not just attend an event as spectators.
They will be active participants with an important mission.
As Park Protectors, they will become Superheroes!

The tradition continues this Columbus Day weekend with the 30th Anniversary Quilt and Needle Arts Show at First Church of Christ in East Haddam. Set inside the church’s historic 1794 Meetinghouse, the show will feature distinctive textile works of art, including one-of-a-kind quilts and needle art pieces. Visitors can browse the latest offerings from our wonderful vendors, shop the First Church boutique, and enjoy homemade soups and pies in the café.
Featured Saturday Presentation -Join us Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for a special presentation by Susi Ryan, Fiber Artist, Author, Speaker, Historical Interpreter, and Sustainable Food Grower. Her talk, The Healing Qualities of Quilt Making, explores the medical, physical, and spiritual benefits of quilt making, along with the history of textiles and natural dyes, including indigo.
Raffle Prizes -Be sure to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of four prizes: First prize: the 30th anniversary queen-size quilt, “Garden Block Party”, $500 Shagbark gift card, $150 Shell gift card, $75 Stitch Chicks gift card. For the first time in our 90-year history, Consumer Reports is opening up its Auto Test Center on Saturday, October 17 for a one-of-a-kind fundraising event. Participants will be able to run or walk on the iconic track where CR tests cars for safety and reliability–a beautiful, state-of-the-art, 327-acre testing center in Colchester, CT. After the race, participants and spectators are invited to stay for a demonstration and speak with the experts who conduct testing on site each day. Proceeds from the race will fund Consumer Reports’ non-profit mission–working for truth, transparency, and fairness in the marketplace.
Participation fee includes a t-shirt.
