Connecticut Ghost Seekers Investigate Local Hauntings

Devil's Hopyard State Park, a Middle Haddam House and the Deep River Library are among some of the groups' investigations into the paranormal.

This week, our senses are being assaulted by outrageous costumes, sticky-sweet confections, haunting music and the transparency of this realm to the otherworldly. No, we’re not talking about a Lady Gaga concert; we’re on the verge of Halloween. That mystical time of year when ghost stories are whispered in eerie tones around crackling campfires as the last of summer’s warmth is burned off into the steadily dropping nighttime temperatures of autumn.

Rather than wait for Halloween to tell great ghost stories, the Connecticut Ghost Seekers investigate the paranormal year-round. According to the four-member group, they are “dedicated and professional paranormal investigators in search of the truth” and “help anyone experiencing paranormal activity by bringing understanding to the unknown.”

Camp CT in Colchester: Legend has it that a group of children died at this site either by a deranged camp counselor or in a bus fire. The ghost hunting team heard children singing on the site.

Devil's Hopyard State Park in East Haddam: There are many stories that surround the possible haunting of Devil's Hopyard from its name to the rumblings of the Moodus Noises and the gathering of a witch's coven. Some locals even refuse to visit the Hopyard at night. But, did the professionals uncover any spirits lurking in the woods?

Clark/Hurst Resort in East Hampton: The property includes several acres of park land and the stone foundations of the original mansion. The property has ties to the Clark Cutaway Harrow Company in Higganum that produced cider presses, disk harrows, hay spreaders, plows, carriage jacks and otheritems in the late 1800s and into the early 1900s. Are the ghosts of generations past still walking the property?

Deep River Library: The original structure was built in the late 1800's as a private home. It was purchased and converted into the library in 1933. Footsteps, whispers and orbs were dicovered by the CT Ghost Seekers during their visit. Videos are available on the CT Ghost Seekers' website along with the story.

Home in Middle Haddam: Built in 1900, this home in Middle Haddam has experienced a vairiety of paranormal activity. Voices in the basement and the spirit "friend" of the current owners' daughter led the Ghost Seekers to investigate.
