Connecticut Haddam and Killingworth Resident State Troopers Increase Enforcement Efforts for the New School Year

As the new school year starts, Connecticut Resident State Troopers from Haddam-Killingworth will be increasing enforcement to reduce underage drinking and substance abuse in the community. The Healthy Communities-Healthy Kids (HC-HK) Coalition has partnered with the Connecticut Resident State Troopers from Haddam and Killingworth to ensure a safe start to the 2013 school year. Increased enforcement will focus on compliance checks and party and parking lot patrols to ensure that youth are not engaging in risky behavior. The enforcement activity will be conducted throughout the fall.

It is also important to note the Connecticut's Social Host Law prohibits minors from consuming alcohol and possessing alcohol on public or private property. Parents and homeowners can also be held responsible with fines and jail time even when they are not on the premises or did not provide the alcohol, but a party was held in their home or on their property.  Research has also revealed that in some instances parents succumb to pressures put upon them by their children. These same parents need to seriously consider the impact of their decisions on their family's future and the well-being of other families.

"The coalition looks forward to working with the Haddam and Killingworth Connecticut Resident State Troopers to reduce substance abuse in the community," said Kathryn Glendon, Prevention Coordinator of the HC-HK Coalition. The coalition is working in the community to decrease and prevent substance abuse among youth.
