Connecticut State Troopers from Troop F Reduce Underage Drinking at the Haddam Neck Fair

Haddam and Killingworth Resident Troopers and Troopers from Troop F worked with staff from the Healthy Communities-Healthy Kids Coalition to help reduce underage drinking and drug use at the Haddam Neck Fair. The Haddam Neck Fair is known by the youth as a place to consume alcohol due to the open fields. On Friday, August 30th and Saturday August 31st the coalition staff and the Connecticut State Troopers from Troop F observed fair-goers and walked the fair grounds. Troopers were able to arrest seven minors for possession of alcohol, two arrests for providing alcohol to minors and three arrests for possession of marijuana.

Troopers learned that youth were receiving their alcohol from adults who purchased the alcohol for them or from coolers that were brought into the fair containing alcohol. It is illegal for adults to purchase or provide alcohol to minors or allow minors to possess alcohol. According to the Connecticut’s Social Host Law, not only is it against the law for minors to consume alcohol, but it is illegal for minors to possess alcohol on public or private property.

This is an on-going continued collaboration between the Haddam and Killingworth Resident Trooper's offices and Healthy Communities-Healthy Kids Coalition to keep our youth safe and prevent underage drinking in our communities.
