Connecticut Trails Day Project in Cockaponset State Forest

The Bridle Path Conservancy (BPC), a local non-profit group dedicated to preserving passive, multi-use trails in Connecticut, is seeking volunteers for its Connecticut Trails Day Weekend project in Cockaponset State Forest on Saturday, June 7, 2014.

Connecticut Trails Day Weekend is an initiative of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (ctwoodlands.org). This year marks the eighth year that the BPC has partnered with CFPA, the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) and the Lower Connecticut River Valley Horsemen’s Club (LCRVHC) to perform trail maintenance. This year’s project will focus on the Purple Trail, accessed from Filley Road in Haddam.

Volunteers are needed to paint blazes, clear brush, and dig some drainage ditches on a 2-mile section of trail. Tools will be provided but bring a bow saw or loppers and gloves (optional). Dress for a day in the woods and bring water, a snack, sun screen and bug spray. A pot-luck cookout lunch, with hot dogs supplied by LCRVHC, will be served around 12:30 p.m. Side dishes and desserts from participants are welcomed.
