East Haddam Man Honored by U.S. Attorney General
Matthew Budzik of East Haddam receives distinguished service award from Department of Justice.

Matthew J. Budzik of East Haddam received an Award for Distinguished Service from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.
Assistant Attorney General Budzik, who runs the Finance Department for the Office of Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen, garnered the award for his work negotiating a $25 billion settlement with the nation’s top five mortgage servicers. Announced earlier this year, it stands as the largest federal-state settlement agreement in history, according to a statement by Jepsen.

“This recognition is well deserved. Matt Budzik worked countless hours over several years to help produce the settlement agreement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers,” Jepsen said. “He, as well as Assistant Attorney General Joseph Chambers and other members of the Finance Department, provided tremendous help to me and to the people of Connecticut, particularly those who will benefit from the terms of this settlement agreement.”
Budzik was among a group of attorneys from eight states who worked together on the settlement. He joined the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General in 2005 and has headed its Finance Department since 2009.
