East Haddam Man Injured In NH Snowmobile Crash

An East Haddam man had to be lifted out of a ravine following a snowmobile accident Tuesday.

EAST HADDAM, CT — An East Haddam man was injured in a snowmobile crash on Tuesday, according to a statement from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. A conservation officer was notified of a snowmobile crash in Pittsburg, New Hampshire on Corridor Trail 20 at 4:30 p.m.

The 21-year-old snowmobile operator is from East Haddam. He was operating a rental snowmobile traveling east on Corridor Trail 20 when he was unable to navigate a downhill left-hand turn in the trail.

He was thrown from his snowmobile, landing about 20 feet down into a ravine, according to the statement.

Emergency responders placed him onto a backboard and, with the use of the Pittsburg Fire Department snowmobile winch, he was hoisted back up the ravine.

He was placed on a rescue sled and brought to an ambulance a short distance down the trail.

He was transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook for treatment of his injuries.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, but inexperience appears to be the leading factor, according to the statement.
