East Haddam Passes New Budget

Residents at a referendum Wednesday approved the new spending plan.

East Haddam voters on Wednesday approved the proposed $28,936,922 budget for fiscal 2011-2012.

Residents at a referendum, which was held from noon to 8 p.m., voted 184 to 127 to approve the new budget.

The $28.9 million budget represents $8,917,631 in general government spending, down $462,897, or 4.93 percent from this year’s budget. It also includes an education budget of  $18,343,633.  School spending would increase $267,952, or 1.48 percent under the budget proposal.

The new budget goes into effect July 1, when the 2011-2012 fiscal year officially starts.
