16th Annual Quilt Show: First Church of Christ in East Haddam

The First Church of Christ Congregational, East Haddam, will host its 16th Annual Quilt Show on Oct. 8 and 9, featuring handmade quilts by dozens of exhibitors, a craft boutique and cafe.

The show is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the church, 499 Town Street, in East Haddam. Admission is $5.

In addition to the show, there will be a craft and quilt-supply boutique and a raffle of a “Sedonna thru the Pines” quilt, designed and handcrafted by Betty Haines and the women of First Church.  Homemade soups, desserts and beverages will be sold throughout the day. All proceeds benefit First Church.

The quilt show draws hundreds of visitors to First Church and its 1794 meeting house, designed by famed architect Lavius Filmore. The light-filled sanctuary, with its flying pulpit, blown-glass panes and star-spangled, domed ceiling show off the colorful quilts to stunning advantage.

Betty Haines, co-chairman of the event, said “There is a lot of talent on display and every year the show is different. It takes a lot of work to put on, but we have people across New England who look forward to our show every year.” The quilt show is one of the church’s most popular fundraisers.
