Faulty Bedroom Fireplace Starts Fire at Haddam House

The fire took place on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a chimney fire with extension on Orchard Road in Haddam at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the home engulfed in smoke which stemmed from a faulty fireplace in the home’s rear bedroom. Firefighters removed a section of a neighboring wall and the ceiling and extinguished the fire with two water extinguishers.

Firefighters also crawled into the home’s attic and used thermal imaging cameras to check for any additional hot spots. They also inspected the chimney from the rooftop and found no extension. Fire Marshal Bill Robbins was on scene to investigate.
