Faulty Dishwasher Causes Fire in Haddam

The Tuesday, Dec. 23, fire took place at a home on Saybrook Road in Haddam.

HVFCo. responded to an appliance fire/structure fire at 3 p.m. today [Tuesday, Dec. 23] at a residence on Saybrook Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed an odor and attributed the smell to a faulty dishwasher that had tripped the breaker. Firefighters removed the dishwasher and several cabinet drawers near the appliance and checked for extension.

They used a thermal imaging camera to look for any hot areas near the dishwasher and circuit breaker. The homeowners were advised to call an electrician.
