Haddam Fire Department Opens its Doors to Northeast Utilities
Workers will use the station as a staging area.
The Haddam Fire Station #1 Firehouse on Saybrook Road began setting up a field coordination center for Northeast Utilities. The facility will serve as a coordinating point for local line crews, and those assisting from out of the area. The firehouse will be used as a support facility for the line crews who have been working very long hours to restore power in Haddam and the surrounding towns. They will be able to have a meal and rest until their next shift.
Residents are asked to use caution when visiting the firehouse as truck traffic may be significant. The staging area for the line trucks will be the upper parking lot. In addition, the Fire Company has been handling many more calls for service than is normal, so emergency vehicle traffic has increased as well. Please keep the first ten spaces on either side of the lower lot clear so they are available to first responders in the event of a call.
While the power is coming back, please continue to treat all downed lines as if they were live. For those still without power, please make sure you are not creating a fire hazard by leaving candles unattended even for a minute, and make sure if you are running a generator or other power equipment, it is outside – not in the basement or garage. Make sure your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are running on batteries – those plugged into the wall will not give you protection while the power is out.

Please do not dial 911 to check on power status, and do not call the fire house – go through the Northeast Utilities customer service lines as they have the most accurate information available. To find out the remaining outages in town, text outage 06441 or outage 06438 to 24612. You will get a message as to how many outages remain.
