At 10:20pm Friday, January 13th, the . received a call for a single car motor on Old County Road. Upon arrival, the first officer evaluated the single victim, a male, who was pinned in the vehicle.  Firefighters used Hurst extrication tools to cut him out of the car which was partially wrapped around a tree. The vehicle may have been air-born as it left the road prior to impacting the tree. The patient was transported by and Middlesex Hospital Paramedic to Lifestar Helicopter which was landed in a field alongside Route 81. Haddam Fire was assisted by Killingworth Fire who handled the Lifestar landing zone. The patient was transported to Hartford Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injures the following Tuesday.

On Saturday, January 28th, the fire company was asked to respond mutual aid to assist the South District Fire Department on River Road in Middletown at a structure fire. Just over the town line from Dublin Hill Road, a single family residence was found to be heavily involved upon arrival. Haddam firefighters provided water by way of Tanker 2-13, and water supply coordination. In addition, firefighters performed Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) standby, and participated in roof operations.

Training for the month included Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Professional Rescuer training as well as Smart Triage system refreshing. The fire company has several kits that can be used when multiple victims are encountered that must be prioritized in terms of severity for treatment and transport.

Ben Tiezzi completed his Probationary Period and was welcomed as a full member.

On March 11th, we will set our clocks ahead. Please use this as a reminder to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors. It is estimated that 1/3 of the households in the United States do not have working smoke detectors. Early warning of smoke and/or CO has proven to be a help in getting families out alive.
