Haddam Town Meeting Wednesday

The proposed $27.7 million budget will go up for a vote at the meeting.

Haddam will hold its annual town meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Haddam Fire Station, 439 Saybrook Road, in Higganum.

Residents at the meeting will vote on whether to accept the town’s proposed $27,764,028 budget for fiscal year 2001-2012.

The proposed budget for next year represents a 1.3 percent increase over this year’s $27.4 million budget. The proposed spending and revenue plan for 2011-2012 includes $20,225,683 in school expenditures as part of the town’s inclusion in the Region 17 School District. Voters in Region 17 approved the district’s $38.11 million education budget earlier this month.

Under Haddam’s portion of that education budget, school spending would increase 2.6 percent next year. The general government portion of the budget would decrease nearly 2 percent, from $7.69 million to $7.53 million.

The new fiscal year for all towns in Connecticut begins July 1.
