Hale-Ray Softball: Class S State Champions 2011

Hale-Ray Shut out Terryville 6-0

This year's Nathan Hale-Ray High School softball team is now the 2011 Class S State Champions, a title that has eluded the Noises since 2004.

Hale-Ray faced defending State Champions, the Terryville Kangaroos, in Stratford Friday night.  The game remained scoreless into the fourth.  Hale-Ray’s Morgan Humble reached first on a base hit, then scored on a triple by Missy Martin.  Missy then scored on a bunt by Lydia Walter.  A pop-up ended Hale-Ray’s offensive. Score: 2-0.

Going into the fifth, Hale-Ray’s Maegan McNulty reached first on a base hit, Alex Lefemina was hit by a pitch, advancing McNulty to second. Maxie Murphy was thrown out on her bunt but advanced the runners to second and third.  Missy Martin drove the ball into center left where Terryville’s center fielder Brenda Carobini and left fielder Angel Katiewicz collided, allowing the ball to drop, giving Missy a 2-run RBI on a double.  At the end of the inning, Hale-Ray led 5-0
