Higganum School Named CAS Elementary School of the Year
A Higganum school has been named the Connecticut Association of Schools' Elementary School of the Year.

HIGGANUM, CT β Burr District Elementary School in Higganum has been named the Connecticut Association of Schoolsβ Elementary School of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year. BES is one of the elementary schools in Region 17, Haddam/Killingworth.
The Connecticut Association of Schools bases this award on excellence in seven categories:
- instruction
- curriculum
- collaboration
- culture and climate
- professional learning culture
- communication
- assessment
βThis recognition is a direct result of the efforts of the principal and staff as they plan for the children who attend Burr,β CAS said in a release.

They noted the time set aside for intervention and small group learning and our maker space as great examples of personalized learning for the students. After interviewing parents and staff, they found a culture of shared leadership, school-wide collaboration and strong pedagogical knowledge.
When told of the recognition, Principal Eric Larson shared that he felt this great honor is reflective of the incredible staff and the supporting families that are within the Burr community.

The Connecticut Association of Schools will present the staff and faculty this award at the May 15 meeting of the Regional School District 17 Board of Education, held at 7 p.m. at Burr District Elementary School.
