Historic 1799 Sampler Stolen

The sampler was stitched by a young East Haddam girl who went missing and was never found.

 

According to Antiques and Art, a historic sampler is missing from the Welles Shipman Ward House. The sampler reads, "When this you see/ remember me/ Matilda Cone, Aged 9 years/ East haddam 1799." Little Matilda disappeared sometime after stitching the sampler and was never found.

The sampler is 87/8 by 77/8 inches in its frame, with the needlework filling the frame and was stiched by in 1799.
