What happens to horses when their owners don't want them or can't take care of them anymore? If it's up to Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue, they go to good homes. To learn more about CDHR and meet the folks behind the rescue operation, stop by and help them celebrate their second annual Oktoberfest. When:  Saturday, October 20, 2012, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Where: 15 Rock Landing Road, Haddam Neck Enjoy educational demonstrations, horse rides and entertainment while you feast on a mix of German and American fare. The Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving draft horses--large work horses--that would otherwise be sold for slaughter or whose owners can't take care of them anymore. Run by Dr. Stacey Golub, equine veterinarian, the team of rescuers includes veterinary assistants, experienced horse people, trainers and farriers.
