The driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle and was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance. On Sept. 28, HVFCo. responded to an inside smoke/possible structure fire call on Pokorny Road. Shortly after arriving home from work, a homeowner received a phone call from her neighbor alerting her that black smoke was billowing from her home. The homeowner quickly called 911 and left the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke at the rear of the home caused by a furnace fire. Firefighters monitored the area until the fire self-extinguished. Firefighters measured the home for extreme carbon monoxide (CO) levels and when deemed safe, allowed the homeowner to return to her residence.
