🌱Monkeypox Arrives In CT + Primaries In Haddam August 9

Hi all. I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through the most important things happening in town.

First, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:

1. It's here! Connecticut has its first official case of documented Monkeypox. According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) the infected man is from New Haven County and is between the ages of 40 and 49. The NBC Connecticut article states, that according to DPH the man is isolating and has not been hospitalized. “The United States is currently experiencing a monkeypox outbreak, and there will likely be additional cases in Connecticut in the weeks ahead. Monkeypox can spread through close prolonged contact with an infected person. This might include coming into contact with skin lesions or body fluids, sharing clothes or other materials that have been used by an infected person or inhaling respiratory droplets during prolonged face-to-face contact," said DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani, MD in the NBC Connecticut article. 2. The Town Of Haddam has issued a legal notice for the "Official Notice Of Primaries" which will be held on Tuesday, August 9. The hours of voting will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Haddam Firehouse Community Hall, 439 Saybrook Road, Higganum CT, Regional School District 17, 57 Little City Road, Higganum CT, and at the Haddam Neck Firehouse, 50 Rock Landing Road, Haddam Neck, CT. Absentee Ballots will be counted at the polls. Get out and vote! (Press Release Desk)
3. Don't forget, this weekend is the Sailfest Summer Festival in downtown New London kicking off Friday from 3 to 10 p.m. It runs from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. One of the festival’s biggest draws is the fantastical fireworks display over the Thames River, which is being held Saturday at 9 p.m. Area lots will offer paid parking, but the event itself is free.
