Joy and Dancing at Colchester's Giant Menorah Lighting

Town Green Chanukah Celebration brings warmth and happiness to local residents.

Some forty town residents came together for a joyous celebration on the seventh evening of Chanukah. The ceremony, held on Monday, December 26, took place on the Colchester Town Green at the corner of Main Street and Norwich Avenue.  The evening was sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center.

Prior to the kindling of a 9-foot Menorah, participants were treated to lively music, chocolate “gelt,” warm potato “latkes,” and hot cider. In addition, a grand raffle was drawn at the conclusion of the program.

As soon as the lights of the giant Menorah were ignited, the crowd erupted in applause, followed by lively dancing. Young and old went round and round, singing festive tunes such as, “Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah” and “Dreidle, Dreidle, Dreidle…”

“The Menorah and her candles have always been a symbol of unity,” said Rabbi Yosef Wolvovsky, Executive Director of the Chabad Center.
