
The year-long celebration of Killingworth’s 350th anniversary reaches a crescendo this weekend with our big, final celebration of the year. A picnic and parade will be held on Saturday Sept. 2nd. The parade route is already festively lined with American flags in preparation for the big events. All year long Killingworth and its residents have been celebrating the towns 350th Anniversary with a series of events, historical lectures and programs, school projects and library programs. This weekend marks our biggest event of the year, a parade and the return of the town picnic.
PARADE: Will kick off at 10:00 AM and travel up Route 81 beginning at the corner of Stevens. Rd. It will continue through the rotary and end at Recycle Way. Spectators are welcome to watch from anywhere along the route but remember, Rt. 81 will close at 10:00 AM so pick your spot before then as Rt. 81 will be closed to vehicular traffic from just before and after the parade. Included in the parade will be two Fife and Drum Corps, over 40 Vintage motor vehicles, local floats, a KES Marching band and marchers from local organizations and dignitaries.
PICNIC: Following the Parade will be the TOWN PICNIC held at Parmelee Farm from Noon to 9:00 PM. Events will be running throughout the day and include family activities, contests and races hosted by the HK Youth and Family Services. Around 3:30 prizes and awards will be given out for the best float in the parade as well as contest winners and the Citizen of the Year Award. There is something for everyone at the picnic…….musical entertainment will include Killingworth has Musical Talent from 1 to 3, Braiden Sunshine, Finalist on NBC’s “The Voice” will perform at 5, and from 6:30 to 8:30, the 17 piece String of Pearls Big Band will play. Food will be for sale or you can pack your own picnic baskets. Limited parking is available at the HK Middle School and shuttle buses will run from Killingworth Elementary, Rocco Reale Field on Recycle Way and St. Lawrence Church.
